Welcome to the homepage of the ELKH-ELTE Geometric and Algebraic Combinatorics Research Group

The research group is led by Tamás Szőnyi, and it was formed on the 1st of July, 2013. Originally, the GAC Research Group was affiliated with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (in Hungarian Magyar Tudományos Akadémia, abbreviated as MTA), and Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest (in Hungarian Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem, abbreviated as ELTE), Institute of Mathematics, Department of Computer Science and Department of Geometry. On the 1st of August, 2019, the Hungarian Parliament established a new research network, the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (in Hungarian, Eötvös Loránd Kutatói Hálózat, abbreviated as ELKH), and decided to attach the research groups belonging to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to it. Hence the research group is now affiliated with ELKH and ELTE, and hence its name changed to ELKH-ELTE Geometric and Algebraic Combinatorics Research Group (ELKH-ELTE GAC, for short).

We mainly focus on combinatorial flavoured problems whose treatment requires algebraic or geometric tools, for example the study of combinatorially defined substructures of finite projective geometries; set systems and their \(q\)-analogues; some extremal problems of (hyper)graphs; and some specific areas of network coding.
